В РФ создана система вирусологического мониторинга ПВ, которая включает исследование материалов, полученных при выполнении эпидемиологического надзора за полиомиелитом и ОВП, дополнительного надзора за ПВ с помощью исследования сточных вод, вирусологический анализ всех штаммов ПВ, выделенных в РФ, в соответствии с алгоритмом вирусологических исследований, рекомендованным ВОЗ.
