Смена волосяного покрова, либо регенераторная активность соседних фолликулов может быть асинхронной (например, у человека и морской свинки каждый фолликул имеет свой ритм). У большинства грызунов большие скопления фолликулов растут и циклируют синхронно, что проявляется в форме волнообразного роста.
