Имеющиеся данные о существовании в норме большого разнообразия проявляющих активность аутоантител и аутореактивных лимфоцитов, не вызывают сомнений в том, что иммунная система компетентна в отношении не только чужеродных антигенов, но и своих собственных антигенов.
