Несмотря на богатую историю сравнительных кариологических исследований саранчовых, возможности изучения линейной дифференциации хромосом в рамках традиционной цитогенетики длительное время были ограничены методом С-дифференциального окрашивания, что затрудняло детализацию путей кариотипической эволюции.
